"WHAT CAN THE LORD DO WITH ONE PERSON WHO SAYS YES?"

"WHAT CAN THE LORD DO WITH ONE PERSON WHO SAYS YES?"

On January 18th, Mrs. Fischer’s 4th grade students dressed up as famous Massachusetts characters and presented carefully researched reports before a group of parents, administrators and teachers. Through their eyes, guests learned about Abigail Adams, Emily Dickinson, Dr. Seuss, Louisa May Alcott, Clara Barton, John Adams, Henrieta Leavitt and so many more.

Each child highlighted the life experiences which shaped their characters, personal characteristics about them, obstacles they overcame, and finally the achievements that made them famous. We saw the things that stood out to the students about their character - the impact of the death of a close family member, their courage, the risks they took on and off battlefields, their impact on others. Their eyes were shining as they made their presentation and it was obvious that they had, somewhere along the way, fallen in love with the person they were highlighting and genuinely proud of their accomplishments.

The goal, says Mrs. Fischer, is more than an academic exercise. It is to inspire them and encourage them! “I want the children to be the person THEY were created to be!” Says Mrs. Fischer. “I talk about that all the time!” I want my students to ponder “What can the Lord do with one person who says ‘yes'?"
