We teach a child how to think, not what to think

At Veritas Christian Academy, we are deeply aware that a solid, well-rounded educational foundation is critical to a child’s development. We rely on tried and true methods of instruction and allow new tools and methodologies to complement these methods, rather than replace them.

At Veritas Christian Academy, we begin with a sustained focus on the basics — math, reading and writing — the Grammar aspect of Classical Education. Our students are allowed to advance at their own natural level through placement or enrichment. By Grade 5/6, Logic becomes a more integral component of all subjects. Our students learn to analyze and draw inferences from what they are reading, apply sound reasoning principles to History and Science, organize their work, and plan multi-step projects.

By Grade 7/8, the Rhetoric aspect of Classical Education begins to emerge. Students are now required to give high-quality and persuasive presentations, both oral and written, and participate in substantive classroom discussions. At the same time, they are given the opportunity to advance into higher level Spanish, Latin and Math classes, including Algebra I, Geometry and Algebra II.

Curriculum Highlights

​

  • Saxon math program - grades PK-6; all classes are advanced one grade level

  • Honors Pre-Algebra, Algebra 1, Geometry, and Algebra 2 offered in Middle School

  • “Hands on” approach to science with strong emphasis on lab experiments, Science Fair, and “doing science”

  • Strong literacy program, beginning with Wilson Fundations curriculum

  • Grammar taught consistently within English Language Arts and the context of writing

  • Global civil rights curriculum connected to 6th grade History

  • Spanish and Latin taught in grades 3-8, with Honors-level course available in grades 7 and 8

  • Spiritual formation through classes in Logic, Apologetics, Bible, Faith in Action, weekly Chapel, and more

  • Formal mentoring program and guidance through the high school application process for all 8th graders

  • Veritas Serves: intentional opportunities to serve each other, our local community, and the greater world

  • All students learn to use technology wisely and well

  • Visual Art, Music, and Physical Education in grades K-8

  • Maker Space in grades 4-6th

  • Annual concerts and productions by division: K-2 vocal, 3-5 instrumental, and Middle School musical performance

  • Annual Middle School retreat and trips to Washington D.C., Acadia National Park, farm school, and more

  • Enrichment course offerings after school, including First Lego League, chess, painting, instrument lessons, etc.

  • Interscholastic athletics for Middle School and sports skills enrichment courses after school

  • “Truly Summer” camp and course offerings every summer
